• Podolsk: from monastic land to regional centre
  Podolsk has a long history. Most likely, a village named Podol appeared on the map of Russia in the end of the 16th century but it was first mentioned in the chronicles at the beginning of the 17th century as monastic property totalling 27 farms (on both sides of the river Pakhra). Today Podolsk has more impressive dimensions: a population of 200 000, largest city in the Moscow region, centre of the Podolsk district and a unique nature site in close vicinity to Moscow. Moscow is only 20 kilometres away if you follow the Simferopolskoye highway, which means that besides lower prices for goods and services, characteristic of regional cities, Podolsk boasts rapid development and all the advantages of its central location.
